Trip Overview

During the contemplative hike, there will be a weaving workshop, a sacred cleansing with tobacco and cotton (you will not consume tobacco, it is done with the hands), you will visit the Cusmuy, which is the sacred house of the community, and you will learn about the Temazcal (a pre-Hispanic ancestral ritual and herbal steam bath used in the community's traditional medicine).
  • Visit the house of the Muisca indigenous community in the mountains of Sesquilé.
  • Only an hour and a half from Bogotá.
  • Learn about the indigenous worldview and their dedication to protecting the territory.

Itinerary

Meet your indigenous storyteller at the main square of Sesquilé.

Walk with your indigenous storyteller from the main square to the entrance of the Muisca Indigenous Council of Sesquilé. This is where your tour will begin.

Approximately an hour and a half later, you will arrive at the Cusmuy (Muisca ceremonial house). The journey is short but includes several stops to explain the indigenous connection to this territory, its restoration, its sacred places, and much more.

You will be back at the entrance of the territory where you will walk back to the main square. Use these minutes of walking to reflect on everything you have learned.

Hike FAQs

The easiest way to get to Sesquilé from Bogotá is to go to the North Transport Terminal and take the bus to Sesquilé.

This experience does not include the traditional medicine of the Muisca indigenous community, the Hosqa IE. However, you can see the Temazcal experience which does include it. The cleansing ceremony with tobacco and cotton does not involve consuming it.

In indigenous communities, each act has meaning and prior preparation. Depending on the indigenous storyteller who accompanies you, the workshop may or may not be carried out, since it could be an apprentice who is not prepared to carry out certain activities, such as cleaning, for example.

At Kalaira, we do not impose any activities on any community without their authorization and consent. We do not shape indigenous communities; As visitors to their territory, we adapt to them.

What we can guarantee is that you will learn a lot and leave inspired.

The indigenous community loves receiving visits from the whole family. Keep in mind that it is a mountain and the walk is uphill. It is recommended that if you come with children, they should be older than 7 years.

Of course, your pet will be very happy to receive the beautiful energy of the place.

I arrived late but they accomodated me well. Guide suggested my taxi take us up hill to save time and it is really up the hill and at high altitude @2600 m so taxi really helped. Still got a nice walk around their villagr and good explanation of their world view in communal hut. As a bonus my young guide told me why the muisga skeleton in the bogota gold museum had her wrists tied and put up under her chin. Skeleton was bundled in a bag and I thought it was to prevent her getting out of woven sack and roaming as ghost.Nope. She was buried in fetal position and placed back in mother earth like baby. Also he told me what some pictographs I had seen at El Abra day before meant. Not touristy and good iour if you like to learn native lore as I do.

Being guided by someone native to an indigenous tribe was a spectacular experience. It really makes you experience the museum in a different way and learn a lot about the customs of the tribe.

I really like it! It's a mixture between a spiritual experience and a touristic one. We were impressed with the wisdom and dedication they had. I greatly recommend it for anyone interested in getting in touch with the pre-Hispanic roots of Colombia and Latin America overall . I would love to go back with more people!
